A pair of seniors, Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) and Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge) have been selected to serve as 2010-11 season captains for the nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's golf team per an announcement made by fourth-year head coach Mike Mignano.

Brown, a 2009-10 Division II Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, produced a 77.34 strokes average (2,243 total strokes) in 29 rounds this past 2009-10 campaign.  He racked up three top-20 place efforts, which included two among the top 10 individuals.  His highest tournament finish was an eighth-place tie at the 2009 Ferris State Matt Pinter Invitational (Sept. 26-27) with a three-round 216 score.

For his three-year (2007-10) FSU career, Brown is currently averaging 76.91 strokes a round (5,691 total strokes) in 74 competitive rounds.  He has chalked up six top-20 place performances in his collegiate career, featuring three in the top 10.

A 2009-10 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team honoree, Simons averaged a team fourth-best 74.97 strokes in 33 rounds for the 2009-10 season.

In his collegiate career (2007-10), Simons has compiled a 75.35 stroke average (3,466 total strokes) in 46 rounds to date.  The 2008-09 team's Bulldog Award recipient has accumulated eight career top 20-place showings, including five among the top 10.  Simons qualified for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championships after attaining tournament co-medalist honors at a qualifying tourney held on Aug. 2 in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Brown and Simons each played an integral part in leading the Bulldogs to a program record seventh-place tying finish at the 2010 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.  Brown tied for 73rd place following a four-round 325 stroke total while Simons claimed a share of 54th place as a result of shooting a 316 score.

Ferris State, which enters the 2010-11 season ranked 18th nationally in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll, begins the fall campaign this weekend (Sept. 11-12) competing in the Lake Superior State Invitational at The Oaks Golf Course in Kincheloe, Mich.
