Ferris State Men's Golf Lands Luke Trocchio

The Ferris State University men's golf program has landed all-state performer Luke Trocchio (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) during the November early-signing period as announced by Bulldog fourth-year head coach Mike Mignano.

Trocchio (pronounced Trow-chee-oh) , a 2010 all-state selection and a three-time (2008-10) All-Macomb Area Conference Blue Division pick, averaged 76.1 strokes per round with a 2.0 USGA Handicap as a junior for the 2010 season at LHS in helping the Huskies secure conference, district, and regional tournament titles.  He claimed tournament medalist twice a season ago at the district and regional tourneys with scores of 77 and 71, respectively.  Trocchio would earn a runner-up finish at the 2010 MAC Blue Division Championships by carding a 75 and then tied for 15th-place honors at the 2010 State Finals with a two-round 156 stroke total  (75-81=156) at Michigan State University's Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.      

"Luke is a tremendous young man with a very strong work ethic," said Mignano.  "His performance on the golf course and in the classroom make him every coach's dream recruit. He has shown great dedication to improving his game and has worked his way through adversity when dealing with an injury this past year.

"We look forward to Luke joining the Bulldog family and the success that he will bring to our program during his collegiate career," added Mignano, who guided the 2009-10 team to a program record seventh-place tying performance at the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.

A three-time (2008-10) MAC All-Academic and all-county honoree, Trocchio has boasted the team's lowest scoring average in each of his last three prep seasons under head coach Dave Murray.  The 5-10 Trocchio, who swings left handed, was recognized as the 2009 squad's Most Valuable Player and served as a team co-captain.  Along with being a three-time letterwinner in golf for the Huskies, Trocchio was a member of the school's diving team as a freshman.

Trocchio garnered medalist honors three times, including twice in 2009, at the Michigan Junior PGA Championships and qualified for the 2010 Michigan Junior Am with a medalist 67 score.  He earned a Golf Week national ranking of 322 for the class of 2011 as of November 2010.

A National Honor Society member in both his junior and senior year, Trocchio spent two years on the school's newspaper staff and one year in the school's Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. 

The son of Joseph and Kimberly Trocchio of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Luke plans to study professional golf management/marketing at Ferris State and will graduate in 2011.
