Men's Golf Ties For Second At Northwood Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team came home with a tie for second place after final round play on Sunday (Sept. 18) at the Northwood Invitational held in Midland, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who led the 13-team competition with a 295 score following Saturday's opening round, posted a 298 in the second round and finished four strokes behind tournament host and champion Northwood.

NU carded a tourney-low round of 289 on Sunday after shooting a 300 in first round action to conclude the 36-hole event with a 589 score. Both FSU and Ashland carded 593 scores with Tiffin coming in fourth overall at 596.

Bulldog junior golfer Tyler Robinson led FSU as he finished tied for fifth place in the field with a two-round total of 146 (+4) on the par 72 course measuring 7,056 yards. He placed five strokes behind medalist Jay overy of Ashland, who shot a 141. Robinson had rounds of 76 and 70, respectively.

Senior Garrett Simons was right behind Robinson as he posted scores of 75 and 72 to finish with a 147 (+5) and a tie for eighth place overall.

Next up for Ferris State was sophomore Trent Davision, who tied for 17th place at 150 overall on the heels of rounds of 78 and 72, respectively.

FSU senior Gary Bissell tied for 26th place (153) with sophomore Sam Stark finishing in a tie for 33rd place overall (154) for the tournament.

The Bulldogs also had thre golfers compete as individuals in the tournament. Richard Weisenberger led the way for the individuals with a tie for 17th place overall at 150 as he shot rounds of 76 and 74. A total of 89 golfers took part in the event.

Ferris State will next compete in the NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Invitational #1 on Sept. 25-26 in South Haven, Mich.
