Men's Golf Takes Second At Ashland Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team came home with a second-place finish from the Ashland Invitational held on Saturday and Sunday (April 21-22) in Ashland, Ohio.

The Bulldogs shot rounds of 300 and 304 to finish at 604 for the two-round event.  The Bulldogs wound up six strokes behind team champion Findlay, which fired a 598 score.  FSU and Findlay were tied for first after the opening round at 300, but the Oilers carded a low score of 298 in Sunday's final round of competition.

Findlay's Michael Schmitmeyer was also the individual champion with a 144 on rounds of 71 and 73 over the two days.  He edged out FSU's Trent Davison, who placed second at 147 with scores of 76 followed by a 71 on Sunday.

FSU's Kyle Wittenbach tied for third place at 148 as he recorded marks of 71 and 77 in the two rounds.  He was followed by Garrett Simons in a tie for seventh place at 151.  Simons shot a 75 on Saturday followed by a 76 on Sunday.

Behind Simons was Gary Bissell, who came in tied for 43rd in the field at 160 on rounds of 78 and 82.  Finally, Richard Weisenberger tied for 50th as he carded an 81 and an 80 to finish at 161 for the tournament.

Ferris State's Tyler Robinson competed as an individual and finished tied for 43rd overall at 160 with scores of 84 and 76.

The Bulldogs will compete in the GLIAC Championship Preview Tournament on April 28 in Elyria, Ohio.
