Wittenbach Wraps Up Play At NCAA Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior Kyle Wittenbach shot a final-round score of 77 to wrap up play in the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships on Thursday (May 17) in Louisville, Ky.

Wittenbach finished the 54-hole individual tournament with a final score of 234 (+18), which put him tied for 92nd overall in the field.  He posted scores of 75, 82 and 77 in the national tournament as the Bulldogs' lone participant.

The Division II Championships are being hosted in conjunction with the Division II Spring Championships Festival in Louisville at the Cardinal Club located in Simpsonville, Ky.  Individual action concluded on Thursday (May 17) on the par 72 course measuring 7,036 yards.

Under the tournament format this season, the individual champion was determined after 54 holes on Thursday.  The top eight teams advance to match play and the national quarterfinals set to be contested on Friday and Saturday.

The Division II Spring Championships Festival is being hosted by Bellarmine University and the Louisville Sports Commission.

Wittenbach earned his trip to the national championships be being one of the top two finishers not associated with a qualifying team at the 2012 NCAA-II Midwest/South Central Super Regional held May 7-9 in Jefferson City, Mo.

Central Oklahoma's Josh Creel topped Jim Knous of the Colorado School of Mines on the 18th hole in a playoff to capture the 2012 Division II Championship in individual fashion.  Both posted 10-under tournament totals of 206 prior to the playoff.
