Men's Golf Third After Day One At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened action in the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Sunday (Oct. 14) at the Elyria Country Club in Elyria, Ohio.

The Bulldogs carded a first-round score of 307 (+19) and are currently in third place following day one action.  Action continues on Monday (Oct. 15) with round two starting at 11 a.m. (ET) followed by the third and final round on Tuesday (Oct. 16) beginning at 9 a.m. (ET).

Tiffin and Ashland both are tied for first place following the first round with 303 team totals (+15) on the par 72 course measuring 6,736 yards.

Ferris State was led by freshman Ben Cook, who's tied for sixth in the field with a first-round 74 total.  Next up was Tyler Robinson in a tie for 15th place with a 76 followed by Luke Trocchio's 78, which is good for a share of 26th overall.

The Bulldog lineup was rounded out by Trent Davison, who's tied for 32nd with a 79, along with Chris Eaton in 62nd place with an 83 figure.

Jon Clark of Malone holds the first-day individual lead as he posted a 68 in the opening round.

The 2012 GLIAC Championships will consist of 54 holes as the teams will play one round each day.  The low four of five scores will count towards the respective team score for each squad.

Ferris State captured the GLIAC Men's Golf Championship in 2010 before placing 11th a year ago.  The 2010 conference crown represented the 19th in the program's history and the Bulldogs' first since the 2004-05 season.
