Men's Golf Moves Up To Second Place After Two Rounds At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team climbed up one spot into second place following day two action in the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Monday (Oct. 15) at the Elyria Country Club in Elyria, Ohio.

The Bulldogs shot the day's low round with a one-under par 287 team total and are presently at 594 (+18) after two rounds.  FSU trails leader Tiffin by three strokes as the Dragons are currently at 591 (+15) heading into the third and final round.  Ashland is four strokes behind the Bulldogs in third place at 598 after two rounds.

Final round action begins on Tuesday (Oct. 16) starting at 9 a.m. (ET) weather permitting as the 54-hole championship tournament comes to a close on the par 72 course measuring 6,736 yards.

Three Bulldog players are currently tied for ninth overall in the field as Trent Davison, Luke Trocchio and Ben Cook are all among the top 10 competitors thus far with scores of 149 overall.  Davison came back from an opening-round 79 on Sunday to post the squad's best mark on Monday with a two-under par 70 score.

Trocchio also had a marked improvement over the first day as he fired a 71 on Monday, which was seven strokes better than his opening-round 78 score.  Meanwhile, Cook posted a 75 after his first round 74 to remain in contention.

Tyler Robinson is next in line for the Bulldogs as he is tied for 16th in the field at 151 following a 75 on Monday to go with his opening-day 76 score.  

Chris Eaton rounds out the Bulldog lineup in a tied for 32nd place as he climbed the leaderboard with an impressive one-under 71.  He had the best one-round turnaround for FSU as he had carded an 83 in the first round. Eaton is now at 154 for the tournament.

Jon Clark of Malone continues to hold the individual lead with a four-under par 140 score over the two days of action.

The 2012 GLIAC Championships consist of 54 holes as the teams plays one round each day.  The low four of five scores count towards the respective team score for each squad.

Ferris State captured the GLIAC Men's Golf Championship in 2010 before placing 11th a year ago.  The 2010 conference crown represented the 19th in the program's history and the Bulldogs' first since the 2004-05 season.
