Bulldogs Finish Second At 2012 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up a successful showing in the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships with a runner-up effort as action concluded on TUesday (Oct. 16) in Elyria, Ohio.

The Bulldogs posted a 295 score in the third and final round to finish at 889 for the 54-hole event or +25 for the competition at the Elyria Country Club.  Ferris State carded a 307 on Sunday (Oct. 14) in first round action followed by an impressive 287 on Monday (Oct. 15) in round two.

FSU finished nine strokes behind champion Grand Valley State, which carded a 10-under par 278 round on Tuesday to finish at +16 (880) in winning the tournament.  Day two leader Tiffin came in third (891) with Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State both tied for fourth (897) among the 12 teams in the field.

Ben Cook led the Bulldogs as he finished tied for fifth in the field with a final score of 220.  He posted a 71 in the third round after initial rounds of 74 and 75 on Sunday and Monday, respectively.

Next up for Ferris State was Trent Davison and Luke Trocchio, who both tied for eighth overall.  Both shot identical rounds of 73 on the final day to post a 222 figure for the event on the par 72 course.  Davison's first two rounds were 79 and 70 while Trocchio carded a 78 on day one followed by a 71 on the second day of competition.

Chris Eaton placed tied for 38th overall for the Bulldogs after a round of 78 to finish at 232 following scores of 83 and 71 over the first two days.  Finally, Tyler Robinson came in 70th with a 151 as he was disqualified from the final round after showings of 76 and 75 over the first two rounds.

Grand Valley State's Joel Siegel was the individual winner of the tournament as he posted a 208 score with an impressive round of 65 on the final day.

The 2012 GLIAC Championships consisted of 54 holes as the teams played one round each day.  The low four of five scores counted towards the respective team score for each squad.

The Bulldogs are tentatively slated to wrap up the fall portion of their 2012-13 schedule by taking part in the Wayne State Motor City Invitational on Oct. 22-23 in Detroit.
