Ferris State Men's Golf Earns Runner-Up Honors At Otter Creek Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team competed in its first major tournament action of the spring and came away with a runner-up finish at the Otter Creek Invitational held on Sunday and Monday (March 31-April 1) in Columbus, Ind.

The Bulldogs carded a two-day team score of 599 and trailed team champion Wisconsin-Parkside by only a single stroke as the Rangers posted a score of 598 overall.

FSU shot rounds of 300 and 299 while moving up from third place after day one action on Sunday at the event hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside at Otter Creek.

Trent Davison led the Bulldogs as he shot rounds of 70 and 74 to finish at 144 overall for the tournament. His score placed third overall.  Wayne State's Austin Hill won the field with a 140 on scores of 72 and 68 and he was followed by Keith Buntrock of Wisconsin-Parkside, who posted a 142 on identical rounds of 71.

Next in line for FSU was Chris Eaton with a 147 on scores of 73 and 74 over the two rounds, respectively.  Ben Cook followed at 157 as he carded scores of 81 and 76 while Sam Stark was only a single stroke behind with a 158 on totals of 76 and 82 overall.

FSU's Luke Trocchio posted a 75 in round two after earning a first round DQ.

In addition, the Bulldogs' Andrew Jared competed as an individual and posted a 152 total with a first-round score of 79 followed by a 73 on the final day.

Indianapolis finished third (600) with Wayne State fourth (605) and Grand Valley State fifth (607) in the 14-team invitational.

Ferris State's 299 score in round two was the second-best score overall in the final round and trailed only UWP's 295 figure on Monday.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, at the NCAA Midwest Regional #2 event slated to be held in Georgetown, Ky.
