Men's Golf Storms Back To Finish Tied For Second At Midwest Regional Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team made an impressive comeback on the final day and finished tied for second overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional #2 Tournament, which wrapped up on Sunday (April 7) at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky.

The Bulldogs shot a 300 in Saturday's opening round of the event nicknamed "The Jewel" and were ninth of 24 teams in the field, but FSU posted a 295 score in Sunday's final round to climb all the way up into a tie for second place at the conclusion of the tournament.

Missouri-St. Louis posted an impressive 575 total on rounds of 281 and 291 to win the event with FSU and host Bellarmine (Ky.) tied for second overall at 595 apiece.  The Bulldogs' 295 second-round score was second only to UMSL's 291 figure on Sunday on the par 72 course measuring 6,842 yards.

Ferris State's Ben Cook and Luke Trocchio both tied for seventh place individually as each carded two-round totals of 147 apiece.  They shot identical scores of 74 on Saturday and both came back with one-over par figures of 73 on Sunday.

FSU's Trent Davison also placed among the top 20 finishers as he was tied for 17th overall with a 149 total on rounds of 77 and 72 on Sunday.  His even-par 72 score aws the second-best figure on Sunday behind a pair of 69 scores.

Andrew Jared finished tied for 52nd overall with a 154 score as he shot 75 in the first round followed by a 79 in round two.  Also, Chris Eaton was only two strokes behind him in a tie for 65th place with a 156 on rounds of 79 and 77 on days one and two, respectively.

David Abolt of Missouri-St. Louis was the individual winner with a 137 total as he fired an impressive 65 on Saturday followed by an even-par 72 on Sunday to win the event by four strokes over runner-up Bryan Ratterman of Bellarmine.

Ferris State will next take part in Midwest Regional #3, which will be held on April 14-15 in Noblesville, Ind.
