Men's Golf Opens Play Tied For 10th At NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened up action in the 2013 Central/Midwest Super Regional Championships on Monday (May 6) and is currently midst a four-way tie for 10th place after one round in Kenosha, Wis.

The Bulldogs posted a 295 team score in the opening round of the 54-hole tournament at The Club at Strawberry Creek and are tied with Indianapolis, Washburn (Kan.) and Southwestern Oklahoma State.  With the 295 score, the Bulldogs are only 12 strokes out of first place, 10 strokes out of second place and eight away from a share of third place overall in a tightly-contested field.

Missouri-St. Louis holds the first day lead with a 283 total followed by Bellarmine (Ky.) at 285 along with Nebraska-Kearney and Central Missouri, which are both tied for third place at 287 overall.  Central Oklahoma rounds out the top five with a 289 total and eight teams are within five strokes of each other in spots six thru 10 overall.

Ben Cook led the Bulldogs on day one as he posted a one-under par 71 total and is tied for 15th place overall.  He's followed by both Andrew Jared and Chris Eaton, who posted identical 74 scores and are tied for 35th individually.

FSU's Trent Davison posted a 76 over the initial 18 holes of action and is tied for 63rd while Luke Trocchio totaled an 80 and is tied for 101st overall.

The individual leader is Central Missouri's Robby Hughey, who shot an impressive 65 and leads the pack by two strokes over a pair of individuals in second place.

The Central/Midwest Regional is being hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and consists of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

The top five teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2013 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 20-24 at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

Second-round action will take place on Tuesday (May 7) with the third and final round set for Wednesday (May 8).

The Bulldogs, under sixth-year head coach Mike Mignano, are making their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in men's golf.
