Ferris State Men's Golf Tied For 10th After One Round At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team shot an opening-round 308 team score and is tied for 10th place overall following round one at the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, which are being contested at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath, Mich.

The Bulldogs are tied with Northern Michigan after the opening 18 holes of play on Saturday (Oct. 5) in the 14-team league field.  Action continues with second round play on Sunday (Oct. 6) before concluding with final-round competition on Monday (Oct. 7) in the 54-hole event.

Malone posted an impressive 293 figure to take the first day lead with Ohio Dominican second (296) and Grand Valley State third (299).  A total of only 10 points seperates the third thru 12th place teams after day one.

Ferris State was led by Ben Cook, who shot an even-par 72 and is tied for third overall following the opening round.  Saginaw Valley State's Wyatt Drost holds the first day lead with a two-under 70 figure followed by Ayrton Mantha of NMU at one-under.

After Cook, FSU's next best performer was senior Trent Davison, who is tied for 27th overall with a 76 in the first round.

The Bulldogs' Chris Eaton is tied for 50th after carding a 79 on Saturday with Sam Stark tied for 58th in the field on the 81 he registered in the first round.  

Meanwhile, Andrew Jared is only a shot back at 82, which is good for a share of 60th place.

Second round tee times will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
