Men's Golf Moves Up Two More Spots To Finish Sixth At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second consecutive day, the Ferris State University men's golf team climbed up an additional two spots in the team standings as the Bulldogs wrapped up the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships with a sixth-place team finish on Monday (Oct. 7) in Bath, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who opened the three-day event in 10th place following first round play on Saturday, carded their lowest score of the 54-hole tournament on Monday in the third and final round with a 305 team total.  FSU previously shot a 308 on both Saturday and Sunday and entered the final round in eighth place in the team race.  Overall, the Bulldogs' 921 finish was good for sixth overall.

Malone held onto the lead and shot a 903 figure overall to beat runner-ups Ashland and Ohio Dominican each by a single stroke.  Saginaw Valley State was fourth (916) and Grand Valley State fifth (917) directly in front of the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs' Andrew Jared shot a one-under 71 score on Monday to finish tied for fifth individually with a 226 performance over the three rounds.  He posted a 82 in the first round before carding a 73 in round two.

Senior Trent Davison also had his best round on the final day with a 75 to place tied for 20th at 231 overall.  He opened with a 76 in round one before shooting an 80 in the second round.
Chris Eaton came in tied for 38th overall with a 236 total, which included a 76 on Monday following scores of 79 and 76, respectively, over the initial two rounds of action.

Meanwhile, Sam Stark placed tied for 45th at 238 overall. He fired his best round with a 78 on day three after posting scores of 81 and 79 in the opening two days of competition.

The Bulldogs' Ben Cook wound up 70th overall as he did not register a score on day three after previously posting a squad-best 72 in round one followed by an 81 on the second day.

A total of 14 teams are competing in the GLIAC Championships. The individual champion was Saginaw Valley State's Wyatt Drost with a 219 total.

Ferris State will play one final tournament of the fall season as the Bulldogs venture to the NCAA Midwest Regional II Tourney on Oct. 14-15 in Eureka, Mo.
