Men's Golf Finishes Third After Weather Shortens Butler Spring Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened up its 2014 spring season by taking third place at the Butler Spring Invitational held at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind.

The Bulldogs carded a first-round score of 305 on Monday on the par 72 course totaling 6,960 yards. However, Tuesday's scheduled final round of play was cancelled due to snow and the cold weather conditions.

Robert Morris (Pa.) emerged as the champion after a first-day total of 291 followed by Indianapolis in second place (300) and the Bulldogs in the top three overall. Host Butler finished fourth (309) with Chicago State fifth (311) in the five-team event that featured three Division I schools.

Senior Trent Davison paced the Bulldogs as he came in tied for third overall with a 73. Both Ben Cook and Chris Eaton placed tied for 20th with 77 scores in Monday's round while Sam Stark was a single stroke behind them and tied for 24th with a 78 on the day. FSU's final competitor was Andrew Jared, who carded a 81, which was good for a share of 31st overall.

The tournament also included a number of individual participants from other Division I schools such as Ball State, IUPUI and Cleveland State who did not factor into the team scores.

Ferris State is next slated to face Indianapolis in a regional dual on Friday (March 28) in Noblesville, Ind. The Bulldogs then take part in the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational, which will actually be held in Columbus, Ind., on Sunday and Monday (March 30-31).
