Ferris State Men's Golf Takes Third In 2014 GLIAC Spring Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team had yet another strong showing this past weekend as the Bulldogs placed third overall in the 2014 GLIAC Spring Invitational, which was held on Saturday and Sunday (April 19-20) at the Winding Hollow Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio.

The Bulldogs posted a first-round score of 310 on Saturday before coming back with a 297 Sunday to finish at 610 for the 36-hole event on the par 72 course. Malone won the tournament with a 595 figure followed by Northwood in second place at 602 overall.

The field included a total of 13 GLIAC member institutions.

Ferris State was paced by Sam Stark, who claimed all-tourney team recognition by placing tied for fifth individually with a 150 figure. He carded a one-over par 73 on day one followed by a 77 score over the final 18 holes of action.

Stark was followed closely by FSU senior Trent Davison. He was only a single stroke back in a tie for seventh place overall at 151 with rounds of 76 and 75 over the two days, respectively.

The Bulldogs' Ben Cook tied for 11th at 153 with rounds of 81 and an even-par 72. Behind him was Chris Eaton in a share of 17th place wtih a 154 total as Ferris State's top four golfers all placed among the top 20 overall. Eaton shot an 80 on Saturday before firing a 74 on Sunday.

Finally, Zak Kiefer rounded out the Bulldog team lineup in a share of 53rd place at 163. He posted an 87 in the first round before coming back with a 76 on the final day.

Ferris State also had a pair of competitors compete as individuals with Tyler Siech placing tied for 23rd overall and Andrew Jared earning a share of 46th place. Siech posted scores of 75 and 80 for a 155 total while Jared notched a 79 along with an 82 while totaling a 161 figure.

The tournament's individual champion was Malone's Tyler Light, who shot a 143 score, including a final-round mark of 69 which ranked as the lowest score of the two-day event.

Ferris State is next in action at home on Saturday (April 26) as FSU hosts its own Bulldog Invitational at Katke Golf Course.
