Ferris State Men's Golf Wraps Up 12th-Straight NCAA Appearance With 13th Place Finish

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team closed out its 12th consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearance with a 13th place overall team finish on Wednesday (May 7) in the Midwest/Central Super Regional held in Eureka, Mo.

The Bulldogs carded a 310 team figure over the final 18 holes of action to place ahead of seven other schools in the 20-team regional field. FSU shot 296 in Monday's (May 5) first round and then totaled a 314 score in round two on Tuesday (May 6) of the three-round, 54-hole tournament.

Ferris State was led by Chris Eaton, who tied for 29th overall in the individual field. He posted a 227 final score and progressively got better each round. He shot a 78 the first day before firing a 75 in the second round and a 74 on the final day.

Senior Trent Davison was only a stroke behind Eaton as he wrapped up his FSU career with a 228 total and tied for 34th overall. Davison shot a 74 in round one and then posted back-to-back rounds of 77 the final two days of action.

Ben Cook tied for 53rd overall with a 231 figure and shot a 79 in the final round on Wednesday. He began the tournament with a one-under 71 score on Monday and then carded an 81 on Tuesday.

Ferris State's Sam Stark placed tied for 75th in the field with a 235 total. Stark recorded an 81 in each of the final two rounds after originally posting a one-over par 73 in the first 18 holes of action.

Finally, Tyler Siech finished tied for 104th with a three-round 248 figure. After notching an 81 in the first round, he shot an 87 on Tuesday and then improved by seven strokes in the final round with an 80 on the day.

The Midwest/Central Men's Golf Super Regional consisted of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region also competed in the event. 

Malone University claimed the regional title with a 886 figure and was follwed by Central Missouri (893), Saginaw Valley State (896) and Central Oklahoma (899) in the top four overall. The top four teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from the regional (regardless of region) advanced to the 2014 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 19-23 at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.

Ferris State wrapped up the spring campaign with four top-three tournament performances, including winning its own Bulldog Invitational held April 26 at FSU's Katke Golf Course.
