League-High Three Ferris State Men's Golfers Claim All-America Scholar Honors

Big Rapids, Mich. - Three members of the Ferris State University men's golf program were recently named to the 2014 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team for their efforts on the course and in the classroom as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

The Bulldogs' three All-America Scholar selections included senior Trent Davison (Rockford), junior Chris Eaton (Edwardsburg) and junior Sam Stark (Hartland). The three honorees were the most of any Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member institution. Overall, a total of 14 individuals from the league were recognized for the 2013-14 campaign.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 78.0 in Division II, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or above. This season, Davison was named to the All-GLIAC Team for the third consecutive year and finished the 2013-14 campaign by placing among the top 20 golfers in nine of his 12 tournaments. His totals included six top-10 finishes, including earning individual medalist honors in FSU's own Bulldog Invitational held April 16 at Katke Golf Course.

Davison had a strong spring as he finished 13th or higher in his first seven outings prior to the NCAA regional championships. He had a pair of third-place finishes to open the spring to go along with his individual title in the Bulldog Invite. The Bulldog veteran also placed tied for seventh in the GLIAC's Spring Invitational.

Meanwhile, Eaton was an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention choice in 2013-14, claiming all-league recognition for the first time in his collegiate career. He tallied five top-20 finishes in spring action and had six such showings for the 2013-14 campaign. His highest finish was a share of third, along with Stark, at the Bulldog Invitational.

Finally, Stark placed among the top 10 golfers in four outings this spring, including an all-tournament showing with a share of fifth place at the GLIAC Spring Invitational. In addition to sharing third place with Eaton at the Bulldog Invitational, both also tied for seventh in dual action versus Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs, under seventh-year head coach Mike Mignano, made their 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in men's golf this season. FSU wrapped up action in the 2014 NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional Championships by coming away with a 13th-place team finish in Eureka, Mo.
