Men's Golf Tunes Up For GLIAC Championships By Taking Ninth At Fall Regional Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up action in the Division II Midwest Fall Regional with a ninth-place team finish on Tuesday (Sept. 30) at Harborside International Golf Course in Chicago, Ill.

The Bulldogs carded a 294 team score in round one and ranked among the top five teams heading into the final day before posting a 310 team score in the second round to finish at 604 (+28) for the 36-hole event.

Malone University won the event with a 590 team figure followed by Lake Superior State (596) and Trevecca Nazarene (597) in the top three overall of the 19 competing schools.

FSU's Chris Eaton finished among the top five individuals overall as he shared fifth place with a 146 team score on rounds of 70 and 76 for the two days, respectively.

Behind Eaton was Ben Cook in a share of 17th place with a 149 score. He shot a first-round 74 followed by a 75 on the final day.

Ferris State's Zak Kiefer came in tied for 80th in the draw with a 156 score on rounds of 74 and 82 over the two days while Cody Simons shared 92nd place a stroke back at 157 for the event. He posted a 76 in the opening round followed by a 81 in the final 18 holes of action.

Finally, Sam Stark tied for 104th in the field with a 159 score by shooting an 81 in the opening round and a 78 the final day.

A total of 169 golfers were included in the large field. Tiffin's Tyler Maranville posted a two-under 142 figure for the two days to earn medalist honors.

Ferris State is back in action at the 2014 GLIAC Championships set for Oct. 10-12 in Georgetown, Ky.
