FSU Men's Golf Moves Up One Spot After Day Two At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team improved by two strokes and moved up a place in the standings following second-round play on Saturday (Oct. 11) in the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky.

The Bulldogs shot a 295 figure in round two on the heels of a first-round 297 score on Friday to climb up a spot to 10th place at 592 overall (+15) in the three-day event. Final round action gets underway Sunday (Oct. 12) starting at 8:30 a.m. (ET).

Malone holds the second-day lead as the Pioneers jumped up a spot by shooting a 289 score in the second of three rounds. They are currently at three-under as a team for the tournament. Tiffin is in second place (576) with Lake Superior State in third (581) overall among the 15 competing teams.

FSU is only two shots behind rival Grand Valley State, which dropped from first to eighth place after posting a 307 team figure on Saturday.

Individually, FSU's Ben Cook is tied for 10th overall with a 143 (-1) total after 36 holes in the 54-hole event on the par 72 course. He shot a 71 on Saturday after posting an even-par 72 on Friday.

Behind Cook is Sam Stark for the Bulldogs in a share of 17th place at 146 (+2). He followed up his opening-round 72 with a two-over 74 in Saturday's action.

Senior Chris Eaton is currently tied for 34th in the field at 149 (+5) with a second-day score of one-over 73. He initially shot a 76 in the opening round.

FSU's Zak Kiefer is tied for 56th individually with a 155 (+11) total on rounds of 78 and 77 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Finally, Cody Simons is tied for 62nd with a 157 (+13) figure as he followed up his opening-round 77 score with an 80 in Saturday's round.

Four individuals are currently tied for the individual lead at 140 (-4) heading into Sunday's final round of competition.

The low four of five scores will count towards the respective team score for each squad.

Ferris State earned runner-up honors two years at the 2012 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship before placing sixth a year ago in 2013.  Overall, the Bulldogs have captured 19 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships in school history.
