Ferris State Moves Up Two More Spots To Place Eighth At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team continued its climb on the final day of the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Sunday (Oct. 12) as the Bulldogs moved up to spots to finish eighth overall.

Ferris State carded its best round of the three-day tournament by shooting a 287 on Sunday to finish at 879 for the 54 holes of action. The Bulldogs previously posted a 297 in round one Friday followed by a 295 on Saturday at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky.

Tiffin claimed the team title with a 856 figure followed by Malone at 868 among the 15 competing teams on the par 72 course.

Ben Cook paced the Bulldogs as he placed tied for sixth in the field with a final 215 total. He shot two rounds of even-par 72, including the last 18 holes on Sunday, and also carded a one-under 71 score in Saturday's round.

Senior Sam Stark followed Cook in 22nd place with a 219 score on rounds of 72, 74 and 73 overall for the three days of action.

FSU's Chris Eaton placed tied for 30th in the field after shooting a one-over 73 on Sunday to finish at 222 for the 54 holes. He previously carded rounds of 76 and 73 the first two days.

Zak Kiefer shot a one-under par 71 in the final round to placed tied for 43rd at 226. His round was his best of the tournament and followed scores of 78 and 77 the opening two days.

Finally, Cody Simons finished in a tie for 51st place at 228 and also fired a 71 in round three. He totaled a 77 in the first round before notching a 80 in the second round.

The individual champion was Walsh University's Nick Paxos, who shot a 209 score to finish at seven-under over the three days of competition.

FSU is slated to wrap up the fall season by competing in the NCAA Preview on Oct. 27-28 in Conover, N.C.
