Men's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season With Strong Finish In NCAA Preview Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team closed out its fall season by taking seventh place overall of more than 20 schools at the Rock Barn Intercollegiate Championships held in Conover, N.C.

The Bulldogs shot a two-day total of 608 overall in the 21-team event held at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa Club on the Jones Course. It served as an NCAA Preview meet with strong competition from across the country.

FSU was led by Zak Kiefer, who earned runner-up honors with a 144 total. He shot a first-round one-under par 71 on Monday before firing a one-over 73 in the final 18 holes of action on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs' Ben Cook was close behind in a tie for third place overall with a 146 figure. Cook carded a 76 in the opening round, but came back with a two-under 70 score to round out the tournament.

Ferris State's Sam Stark shared 65th place at 158 on rounds of 78 and 80 over the two days of competition, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Chris Eaton placed tied for 77th in the field with a 160 score on rounds of 79 and 81 while Cody Simons came in 97th with a 167 figure. Simons posted scores of 86 and 81 in the event.

Chico State (Calif.) won the tournament with a 590 score followed by Georgia Southwestern (594), Central Oklahoma (602), North Greenville (S.C.) (603) and Indiana (Pa.) (606) in the top five overall.

The Bulldogs will resume their 2014-15 campaign in the spring with action beginning in the month of March. The complete spring schedule is still to be announced.
