Ferris State Men's Golf Tops Bellarmine In Rare Dual Match In Indiana

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team played a rare dual match on Friday (March 27) against regional opponent Bellarmine (Ky.) and came away with a 10-stroke victory at the French Lick Resort in Indiana.

The Bulldogs carded a 306 team score over the 18 holes of action on the par 70 course measuring 6,632 yards to beat the Knights. Bellarmine shot 316 for the day in the neutral course matchup.

In addition to facing the Knights, the Bulldogs also had to battle the elements as the round was played with temperatures in the low 30's. Competitors also had to play the final three holes in snowy conditions.

Overall, the Bulldogs had seven individuals compete in the dual with two playing as individuals and not reflected in the final team score. Counting those two individual players, Ferris State took the top three spots in the 12-player field and finished with five of the top eight performers overall.

FSU was led by junior Zak Kiefer, who was the medalist with a score of 73 on the day. Junior teammate Ben Cook was only a single stroke back as he earned runner-up honors with a 74 score.

FSU sophomores Tyler Siech and Cody Simons both competed individually with Siech shooting a 77 to finish third in the field. Simons placed tied for fifth in a group of four individuals who shot 79. Ferris State senior Chris Eaton was also part of the four-way tie for fifth place with a round of 79 on Friday.

Finally, Bulldog freshman Seth Terpstra carded an 80 as did senior Sam Stark as both placed tied for ninth with an 80 score.
