Cook Wins Medalist Honors As Bulldogs Place Fourth At AMFAM Spring Men's Golf Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team came away with a fourth-place finish in a large field at the AMFAM Spring Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday and Monday (March 29-30) at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ind.

The Bulldogs finished with a two-round 608 team score over the 36 holes of action, which included a 306 team score in round one followed by a 302 total in the final round to conclude the event at +32 overall.

A total of 15 schools took part in the two-day event with the Bulldogs placing ahead of all but one other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) school. Grand Valley State won the event with a 596 figure followed by Indianapolis in second place (599) and Maryville third (600).

FSU junior Ben Cook emerged as the individual medalist in the field as she shot a two-under par 142 score for the tournament. Cook posted an impressive 68 score in the first round before firing a 74 in the final round. He finished with a three-stroke victory in the individual field.

Junior Zak Kiefer and sophomore Tyler Siech both placed tied for 42nd overall for the Bulldogs with 155 scores as each finished +11 for the two days of competition. Kiefer carded a 79 in the first round followed by a 76 on Monday with Siech posting scores of 78 in round one and 77 in the second round.

Senior Chris Eaton wound up tied for 47th with a 156 score (+12) on rounds of 81 and 75 with freshman Seth Terpstra tying for 70th overall at 161. He shot a first-round 81 and a second-day total of 80 to come in +17 for the tournament.

The Bulldogs' Cody Simons, a sophomore, and senior Sam Stark both competed as individuals with Simons placing tied for 25th at 152 (+8) and Stark coming in tied for 80th in the field at 164 (+20). Simons fired a 76 in both rounds while Stark came in with a 79 on day two after shooting an 85 in round one.

Ferris State is next in action on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, as the Bulldogs venture to the Midwest Regional Tourney #2, The Jewell, at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
