Ferris State Men's Golf Wraps Up 13th-Straight NCAA Appearance At Super Regional Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up its 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance with a 16th-place finish in the 2015 NCAA-II Midwest/Central Super Regional on Wednesday (May 6) at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs finished the 54-hole tournament by shooting a 312 team figure in the final round Wednesday at Cog Hill's Dubsdread Course. Overall, Ferris State carded a 924 figure or +60 for the three rounds after previously netting scores of 305 in round one Monday and 307 in Tuesday's second 18 holes of action on the par 72 course.

Central Oklahoma moved up two spots to win the tournament with an 885 figure followed by Central Missouri at 895 and Missouri-St. Louis at 896 in the top three overall.

The Bulldogs' Ben Cook surged up the leaderboard on the final day by shooting an even-par 72 to place tied for ninth in the field individually. He tallied a 221 total on rounds of 73, 76 and 72 while wrapping up a stellar campaign that saw him capture the GLIAC Men's Golfer of the Year honor.

FSU's Chris Eaton shot an 81 in the final round and placed tied for 58th in the field at 233 overall. He previously posted scores of 73 in round one and 79 in round two.

Behind Eaton was Zak Kiefer for the Bulldogs in a share of 87th place overall at 239 for the tournament. His final round score of 85 came on the heels of back-to-back scores in the 70's to open the event as he shot 79 in the first round and 75 over the second 18 holes.

Ferris State's Tyler Siech came in tied for 91st with a 240 total and posted his best round with a 78 on Wednesday. He fired a first-round 80 and a second-round 82 figure the first two days.

Finally, Ryan Bayer totaled an 81 in the last round and was tied for 97th overall at 242 for the three days of action. The Bulldog freshman shot 84 the opening day before coming back with a 77 on Tuesday prior to the final round.

Central Oklahoma's Eric Kline moved up two spots the final day to capture individual medalist honors with a 214 total. He shot a 71 in the final round and narrowly edged Malone's Garrison Myles, who netted a 215 figure to earn runner-up honors in the field of 108 golfers.

The Midwest/Central Super Regional was hosted by Lewis University. The course featured a par 72, 6,869 yards Dick Wilson and Joe Lee design, that challenged golfers with heavily bunkered obstacbles and large undulating greens.

The Midwest/Central Men's Golf Super Regional consisted of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region also competed.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) advanced to the 2015 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 18-22 at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C. The remaining eight berths into the national championships are allocated based on the regions represented in last year's match/medal portion of the championships with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Along with number seven seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who took part in the super regional tourney included top-seeded Indianapolis, Grand Valley State, Missouri-St. Louis, Tiffin, Lewis, Lake Superior State, FSU, Malone, Saginaw Valley State and Walsh.

Central Missouri was the Central Region's top seed and followed by Central Oklahoma, Arkansas Tech, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Henderson State (Ark.), Northeastern State (Okla.), Southern Nazarene, Minnesota State, Washburn (Kan.) and Southeastern Oklahoma State entering the tournament.

Ferris State's current 13-year NCAA Championship appearance streak in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.
