Ferris State Men's Golf Wins NCAA Fall Midwest Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team put together an impressive performance as the Bulldogs captured team championship honors in the 2015 NCAA Midwest Fall Regional held at Harborside International in Chicago, Ill.

The event included 32 schools from across the region for the two-day tournament on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 28-29).

Ferris State shot an impressive 284 team score in round one and followed it up with a 313 figure in the second round to finish at 597 or +21 for the tournament. The Bulldogs edged runner-up Northern Michigan by two strokes as the Wildcats shot a final-round 305 score to finish at 599 overall.

Behind FSU and NMU were a trio of teams in third place, including Grand Valley State, McKendree (Ill.) and Missouri-St. Louis as all three squads carded 608 finishes.

Ferris State was paced by sophomore Jack Weller, who shot a six-under 66 score in the first round along with an 81 in round two to finish tied for fourth overall at 147 (+3) for the two days of action.

Bulldog junior Zack Bialik came in tied for seventh with a 148 total on rounds of 69 and 79 to finish +4 for the 36-hole event.

FSU freshman Andrew Hammett tied for 23rd overall at 152 (+8) as he shot a 75 followed by a 77 in Tuesday's final 18 holes of competition.

Ferris State sophomore Ryan Bayer placed tied for 38th with a two-day total of 154 (+10) on rounds of 74 and 80 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Finally, sophomore Seth Terpstra finished tied for 83rd in the field with a 160 (+16) score. He posted a first-round 83 score, but improved by six strokes with a 77 in the final round for the Bulldogs.

A total of 158 golfers competed in the event.

The Bulldogs are next back in action on Oct. 12-13 at the NCAA Midwest Regional #2 Tourney to be held in Eureka, Mo.
