Men's Golf Moves Up Six Spots On Final Day To Finish 10th In 30-Team Regional Field

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team produced one of the lowest final-round scores to vault six places to 10th on the final leaderboard at the NCAA Midwest Region #4 Invitational, which wrapped up Monday (April 11) at The Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

The Bulldogs opened the two-day event by carding a 314 in Sunday's first round and were 16th overall in the team standings, but climbed six spots by shooting a 301 over the final 18 holes of action to finish with a 615 team score.

FSU's 301 final-day total ranked among the top four teams in the 30-squad field at The Purgatory Regional.

Ferris State was paced by freshman Andrew Hammett, who finished tied for sixth in the tournament with a 146 score. He shot a two-over 74 in the opening round before coming back to shoot even-par 72 on Monday.

Sophomore Seth Terpstra placed tied for 38th with a 154 figure on rounds of 79 and 75 with fellow sophmore Jack Weller carding a 156 score for a share of 49th place. He posted a 77 followed by a 79 in the final 18 holes of competition.

The Bulldogs' Ryan Bayer, a sophomore, finished tied for 83rd at 160 by firing a 75 in the final round after an 85 score in the opening round. Finally, senior Zak Kiefer netted a 168 total on identical rounds of 84 for a tie of 126th on the leaderboard.

Ferris State will next take part in the 2016 GLIAC Championships set for this Friday thru Sunday, April 15-17, in Nashport, Ohio.
