Ferris State Men's Golf Opens 14th Consecutive NCAA Tourney Appearance

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened its 14th consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearance by shooting a 311 team score on Monday (May 2) in the opening round of the Midwest/Central Super Regional held at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs opened the 54-hole tournament with a +27 figure and sit 19th overall in the super regional, but are only 10 shots outside of the top 10 overall heading into day two action of the three-day tournament.

Fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Tiffin leads the tournament with a 289 first-day figure followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State (291), Central Missouri (294), Bellarmine (294) and host Grand Valley State (295) in the top five overall.

Sophomore Jack Weller had a strong day for the Bulldogs as he's presently tied for 11th overal lindivdually after shooting a one-over par 72 on the par 71 course measuring 6,955 yards.

The Bulldogs' Seth Terpstra, also a sophomore, is tied for 84th overall after carding a 79 in round one on Monday.

Meanwhile, sophomore Ryan Bayer and juinor Cody Simons both shot 80 in first-day action and are currently tied for 91st overall with junior Tyler Siech tied for 99th in the field with an 82 score.

Tiffin's Brett Green holds the day one individual lead after posting a 66 in the opening round of the tournament.

Day two action continues on Tuesday (May 3) as the Bulldogs play round two at The Meadows. FSU tees off with group one starting at 7:35 a.m. The third and final round will take place on Wednesday (May 4).

The Midwest/Central Regional is being hosted by Grand Valley State University and consists of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

The top five teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2016 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colo. The finals will be hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Along with number seven seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who are making the super regional tourney appearance are top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis, Indianapolis, Tiffin, Grand Valley State, Northwood, Northern Michigan, FSU, Lewis, Bellarmine (Ky.) and Trevecca Nazarene in respective seeding order.

Central Missouri is the Central Region's top seed and followed by Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Winona State, Arkansas Tech, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Henderson State, Lindenwood, Washburn and Minnesota State.

Ferris State's current 14-year NCAA Championship appearance streak in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.
