Ferris State Men's Golf Moves Up Five Spots In Day Two Action At NCAA Regionals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team climbed up five places with a strong day two showing at the 2016 NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional Tournament on Tuesday (May 3) at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.

The Bullodgs improved their team score by nine strokes over the first-day total to come in at 613 overall after 36th holes of action in the 54-hole event. FSU is currently tied for 14th overall with Minnesota State in the team chase.

After carding a 311 team figure in Monday's first 18 holes of action, the Bulldogs shot a 302 team score on Tuesday in round two.

The Bulldogs' Jack Weller, a sophomore, is currently tied for 28th overall with a 149 figure on rounds of 72 and 77 over the two days, respectively.

Meanwhile, junior Tyler Siech had a strong second-round with a one-over par 72 on the par 71 course and is tied for 59th individually at 154 for the 36 holes of action. He shot a 82 in the first round.

Sophomore Seth Terpstra and junior Ryan Bayer both are tied for 72nd overall with 156 totals following two rounds. Terpstra posted a 77 on Tuesday after a first-round 79 while Bayer notched a 76 in round two on the heels of his first-round 80 figure.

Finally, junior Cody Simons shot a 78 in the second round and is tied for 85th overall with a 158 total. He tallied a 80 in the opening round of the three-day event. The third and final round will take place on Wednesday (May 4).

The Midwest/Central Regional is being hosted by Grand Valley State University and consists of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

The top five teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2016 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colo. The finals will be hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Along with number seven seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who are making the super regional tourney appearance are top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis, Indianapolis, Tiffin, Grand Valley State, Northwood, Northern Michigan, FSU, Lewis, Bellarmine (Ky.) and Trevecca Nazarene in respective seeding order.

Central Missouri is the Central Region's top seed and followed by Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Winona State, Arkansas Tech, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Henderson State, Lindenwood, Washburn and Minnesota State.

Ferris State's current 14-year NCAA Championship appearance streak in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.
