Ferris State Men's Golf Holds First-Day Lead At Kyle Ryman Memorial Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team continued its impressive season-opening play as the Bulldogs jumped out to the first-day lead at the Kyle Ryman Memorial hosted by Tiffin University on Saturday (Oct. 1) in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Bulldogs, who won their first two tournaments of the fall, shot 280 in round one and 288 in the second round of the opening 36 holes of action to build a five-stroke lead over second place Saginaw Valley State in the 17-team field.

"We are happy to be leading after 36 and feel prepared to finish strong in the final round," said FSU head coach Kyle Wittenbach.

FSU was led in first day action by senior Ben Cook, who shot 69 and 71 to come in at four-under for the opening day of action. He's midst a tie for second place and only a single stroke behind leader Ryan Peruski of Saginaw Valley State.

FSU's Jack Weller is tied for fourth overall at three-under after shooting a first-round 72 followed by a 69 in the second 18 holes of competition.

Next in line for FSU was Andrew Hammett, who carded scores of 70 and 75 and is presently tied for 12th in the field.

The Bulldogs' Seth Terpstra is also among the top 15 overall as he's tied for 14th after the first day with scores of 69 in round one and 77 in the second round.

Finally, FSU's Ryan Bayer is tied for 34th in the field with a 76 in the first round and a 73 in round two.

Action wraps up in the two-day tournament at Mohawk Golf and Country Club with final round play on Sunday (Oct. 2) in Tiffin.
