Ferris State Men's Golf Wins Third-Straight Tournament As 'Dawgs Capture Kyle Ryman Memorial

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team won its third-straight tournament to open the fall season as the Bulldogs claimed the team championship at the Kyle Ryman Memorial hosted by Tiffin University over the weekend in Tiffin, Ohio.

Ferris State shot a three-round 865 score to win the 17-team field by six strokes at Mohawk Golf and Country Club in Tiffin. The event was held on the par 72 course measuring 6,685 yards from the Dragon Tees.

FSU opened the two-day tournament with a 280 in the first round before carding a 288 in round two to grab the first day lead. The Bulldogs then shot a 297 in the third round to secure the win.

Saginaw Valley State took second place at 871 overall with Wayne State third (875), host Tiffin fourth (879) and Findlay fifth (883) on the team leaderboard.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Ben Cook, who shared first place honors with Keenai Sampson of McKendree (Ill.) and Hillsdale's Joel Pietila. All three posted 214 totals at two-under par for the tournament. Cook shot a 69 followed by a 71 and a 74 in leading FSU.

Ferris State's Seth Terpstra came in tied for eighth in the field with a 217 figure (+1). He shot 69 in the first round and came back with a 71 in the third and final round after posting a 77 in the middle 18 holes of action.

Teammate Jack Weller was only a stroke behind Terpstra as he tied for 12th overall at 218 for the three rounds of action. Weller shot a 72 before carding a 69 in round two and a 77 in the final round.

Andrew Hammett placed tied for 27th individually with a 223 total as he went 70, 75 and 78 in the three rounds of competition, respectively.

Finally, FSU's Ryan Bayer wound up tied for 31st at 224 overall. Bayer posted a 76 in the opening round, a 73 in round two and closed with a 75 in Sunday's final round.

The Bulldogs have now emerged victorious in all three tournaments they've played this fall to date under first-year head coach Kyle Wittenbach.

Ferris State is next slated to take part in Midwest Region Invitational #3 on Oct. 10-11 in Eureka, Mo.
