Ferris State Men's Golf Only One Shot Off Lead After First Round At Regional Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team, which has won each of its first three tournaments to date this fall, opened strong again at the Midwest Regional Invite on Monday (Oct. 10) as the Bulldogs are only a stroke off the lead in Eureka, Mo.

Ferris State carded a 286 team score in the first round of action at Fox Run Golf Club and trails leader Missouri-St. Louis by only one shot heading into the final 18 holes of the event. Hillsdale is third (294) with Grand Valley State fourth (299) and Malone fifth (301) in the 26-team field.

The Bulldogs' Jack Weller shot a two-under par 69 in the first round and is presently midst a three-way tie for first place on the individual leaders list after day one.

FSU senior Ben Cook and the Bulldogs' Andrew Hammett are both tied for fourth in the field as each shot 70 in the first round.

Meanwhile, Ferris State's Ryan Bayer carded a first-round total of 77 and is tied for 41st overall with Seth Terpstra tied for 83rd with an 81 in the opening round.

The annual regional event features nearly every squad from the Midwest Region.

The final round will get underway on Tuesday (Oct. 11) starting at 9:30 a.m. (CT) at Fox Run Golf The event is being hosted by Missouri-St. Louis.
