CHAMPIONS! Ferris State Men's Golf Wins 4th-Straight Tourney Of Fall Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team continued its stellar play this fall as the Bulldogs won their fourth consecutive tournament by claiming the Midwest Regional title on Tuesday (Oct. 11) at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.

The Bulldogs, under first-year head coach Kyle Wittenbach, began the day one stroke behind first day leader Missouri-St. Louis on the par 72 course, but carded a 291 figure in Tuesday's final 18 holes of action to notch a four-stroke victory over the host school.

A total of 26 schools took part in the 36-hole event. FSU finished with a 577 figure on rounds of 286 and 291 while UMSL earned runner-up honors with a 580 total on rounds of 285 and 295, respectively. Grand Valley State finished third (603) with Hillsdale fourth (604) and Harding fifth (605) in the field.

FSU was led by Jack Weller, who placed tied for second individually with a 141 total over the two days of competition. He shot a 69 in round one followed by an even-par 72 in the second round. Weller finished only a single stroke behind individual medalist Markus Lindberg of Missouri-St. Louis, who netted a 140 for the tournament.

Senior Ben Cook also earned all-tournament honors for the Bulldogs as he came in fourth overall at 142 following rounds of 70 Monday and 72 on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs' Ryan Bayer also finished among the top 20 overall by claiming a share of 17th place with a 151 figure. Bayer shot 77 in round one before posting a 74 in the second and final round.

FSU's Seth Terpstra shot a one-over 73 in the final round to climb the leaderboard where he finished tied for 37th. It came on the heels of a 81 in the opening round, which resulted in a 154 total for the two days.

Finally, the Bulldogs' Andrew Hammett finished 130th overall after a 70 in the opening round. He did not register a score in the final round.

Ferris State will wrap up the fall season next week as FSU competes in the Kohler Classic set for Oct. 16-18 in Sheboygan, Wis.
