Ferris State Golf Teams Close Fall Season With Top-Five Team Finishes At Kohler Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams both concluded the fall campaign with strong showings as each squad finished in the top five overall at the Kohler Collegiate Classic held at prestigious Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.

The Bulldog women's team placed third overall with a 675 figure in the two-round event while the men's squad shared fifth place in the event with a 605 score.

In the women's competition, Keiser University captured first place (608) followed by Cardinal Stritch (661) and FSU in the top three overall. A total of 10 schools took part in the 36-hole tournament on the Irish Course at Whistling Straits.

The Bulldogs were led by Morgan Zloto, who placed tied for 10th overall with a 167 total. She shot an 84 in round one followed by a 83 in the second round.

FSU's Destiny Lawson came in tied for 13th at 168 on rounds of 79 and 89 over the two days, respectively, while Danielle Flack finished 17th in the field with a 169 total. Flack posted a first-round 83 before carding a 86 over the final 18 holes.

The Bulldogs' Jordan Duvall placed 19th with a 171 figure as she posted an 82 and an 89 score in the event. Finally, Katelin Randolph was 32nd for the Bulldogs with a 185. She shot a 91 on day one followed by a 94 in the final round.

In the men's competition at the Straits Course, Texas Wesleyan emerged as the team champion with a 584 score. Northwestern Ohio placed second (594) with Northern Michigan third (595), Our Lady of the Lake fourth (601) and FSU fifth (605) in the tightly-contested 15-team field.

Senior Ben Cook led the Bulldogs as he tied for third individually with a 146 total. Cook fired a 71 in the first round and came back with a 75 on the final day.

FSU's Ryan Bayer tied for 18th at 151 on rounds of 78 and 73 with Andrew Hammett notched a 154 total over the two days for a share of 29th place. He shot a first-round 73 before finishing with an 81 in the final round.

Seth Terpstra placed tied for 37th overall with a 156 total as he also shot a first-round 73 before closing with an 83 on Tuesday. Finally, Jack Weller wound up tied for 54th on rounds of 79 and 81, respectively, for a 160 total.

The tournament capped off an impressive fall season for the Bulldog squads under first-year head coach Kyle Wittenbach. The men's squad won four of its five events in the fall season while the women's team had four top-five team performances.

Both Ferris State teams will resume competition in late March with both the GLIAC and NCAA Championship events taking place next spring.
