Ferris State Men's Golf Opens Spring Season Tied For Fourth At SVSU Spring Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 15th-ranked Ferris State University men's golf team opened its spring action by placing tied for fourth overall at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational, which took place over the weekend at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky.

The Bulldogs carded a two-round 598 team total with a score of 304 in Saturday's opening 18 holes of action followed by a 294 figure in the final round on Sunday. FSU finished only six strokes behind team champion Bellarmine (Ky.), which totaled a 592 figure. Tiffin came in second (595) with Grand Valley State third (596) followed by FSU and host SVSU with identical 598 figures.

Overall, a total of 21 schools were in the field.

Ferris State's Ben Cook tied for second overall in the individual standings with a 144 total on rounds of 70 and 74 over the two days of action, respectively.

FSU's Jack Weller placed tied for seventh at 146 as he carded a two-under par 70 in the final round after firing a 76 in round one.

The Bulldogs' Seth Terpstra finished tied for 50th at 155 as he posted scores of 77 and 78. He was followed by Ryan Bayer in a share of 58th place with marks of 81 and 75 in the event.

Finally, Ferris State's Andrew Hammett shot a 157 figure over the 36 holes with scores of 82 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday to placed tied for 69th in the field.

Ferris State's Cody Simons competed as an individual and wound up tied for 22nd with a 151 figure on scores of 77 and 74 while Josh Jeffords also took part on an individual basis and came in tied for 95th. He totaled 162 with a first-round 80 followed by an 82 in the final round.

The Bulldogs are slated to return to action on March 27-28 at the GLIAC South Invitational to be held in Lexington, Ky.
