Ferris State Men's Golf Takes Third Place At 2017 GLIAC Spring Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up action on Tuesday (March 28) with a third-place overall team finish at the 2017 GLIAC Spring Invitational, which took place at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.

The two-day event featured 12 teams from the conference and the 36-hole event was played on a par 72 course measuring 7,013 yards.

FSU shot a 290 in round one Monday followed by a 296 figure in Tuesday's second round to finish at 586 or +8 for the two days of action. The Bulldogs came in behind champion Saginaw Valley State (573) and runner-up Grand Valley State (581) in the competitive field. Northwood finished fourth (593) with both Northern Michigan and Findlay tying for fifth place at 600 overall.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Ben Cook, who moved up seven spots in the final round by shooting a three-under 69 for the tournament's low round on Tuesday and placed third overall. He previously shot a 73 in round one and finished at 142 overall for the two days with his -2 showing only two strokes back of champion Cameron Lippoldt of Northwood (-4).

FSU's Jack Weller placed tied for 13th with a 147 on rounds of 71 Monday and 76 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Seth Terpstra tied for 17th in the field with a 148 figure as he shot a 73 in round one followed by a 75 in the final round.

The Bulldogs' Ryan Bayer tied for 19th overall at 149 as he carded a first-round 73 score followed by a 76 in Tuesday's final 18 holes of action. Finally, Cody Simons tied for 45th at 155 on rounds of 78 and 77 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Ferris State's Andrew Hammett competed as an individual and placed tied for 43rd with a 154 total. He shot an 80 in the opening round before improving by six strokes in the final round with a 74 on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Midwest Regional #3 Tourney on Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4, in Old Hickory, Tenn.
