Ferris State's Andrew Hammett Wins Medalist Honors As Bulldogs Place 6th At Music City Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 17th-ranked Ferris State University men's golf team completed action on Tuesday (April 4) in the Music City Regional with a sixth-place team finish in Old Hickory, Tenn.

The Bulldogs carded a two-round 585 team total in the regional event hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University at the Hermitage Golf Course and General's Retreat.

Ferris State shot a 291 team score in the opening round of the 36-hole event on Monday and was only four strokes off the lead heading into the final round when FSU shot a 294 score to finish at 585 or +9 in the 24-team field. Grand Valley State won the event with a 571 total (-5) followed by Indianapolis (574), Tiffin (578), Bellarmine (580) and host Trevecca Nazarene (584) in the top five overall.

The Bulldogs' Andrew Hammett tied Bellarmine's James Inman for the individual championship and eventually came out on top in a sudden death playoff to earn medalist honors. Hammett shot a 140 figure to finish -4 for the tournament with identical scores of two-under par 70 each round. He claimed the sudden death playoff on the second hole with a birdie on the par 5, 600-yard number 11 after both competitors tied on the first playoff hole.

FSU senior Ben Cook was next in line as he placed tied for 22nd with a 146 score. He shot a 72 in the opening round and a 74 in the final round to finish +2 for the tournament.

Ferris State's Seth Terpstra carded a 150 score on rounds of 73 Monday and 77 Tuesday to finish tied for 53rd in the field (+6) while Jack Weller and Ryan Bayer both tied for 62nd overall. Weller and Bayer both shot identical scores of 76 in round one and 75 in round two to finish with 151 figures or +7 for the event.

Built in 1986 with architect Gary Roger Baird, General's Retreat hosted the LPGA Sara Lee Classic from 1988-1999. The course is set along the Cumberland River just outside of Nashville.

The 24 teams in the field came from the three conferences in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region. There were five teams from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) along with 10 from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and nine teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

The Bulldogs are next slated to compete in the Midwest Regional #4 Tourney on Sunday and Monday, April 9-10, in Noblesville, Ind.
