Ferris State Men's Golf Finishes Tied For 8th After Weather Shortens Midwest Regional Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's golf team finished tied for eighth overall in the Midwest Regional #4 event as weather forced the cancellation of the final round on Monday (April 10) at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

Ferris State shot a 300 team score in the opening round of the tournament played on Sunday before the weather shortened the event. Lightning and thunderstorms impacted Monday's play as the final group only made it halfway thru the round before the lightning arrived and the skies opened up.

With the cancellation of the second round, Sunday's results became final, making it an 18-hole event.

A total of 29 teams took part in the regional event with Grand Valley State winning the shortened tournament with a 285 team score. Saginaw Valley State came in second (291) with host Indianapolis, Lewis (Ill.) and Missouri-St. Louis all tying for third place with 294 totals.

The Bulldogs were paced by Jack Weller, who carded a one-over par 73 on Sunday to tie for 14th place individually.

Senior Ben Cook tied for 31st in the field following his 75 score with Ryan Bayer and Seth Terpstra both tying for 40th with scores of 76 in the only round that counted. Finally, Andrew Hammett shot a 77 for a share of 57th place.

The Bulldogs are next slated to compete in the 2017 GLIAC Championships set for April 21-23 in Nashport, Ohio.
