Bulldog Men's Golf Tied For Eighth Overall At NCAA-II Super Regional After Two Rounds

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf squad carded a 283 team total for the second consecutive day and sits tied for eighth place overall following two rounds of competition Tuesday (May 9) at the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional being held at Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Axtell, Neb.

The Bulldogs' 283 figure in Tuesday's second round was five under and matched FSU's identical 283 total in Monday's opening 18 holes of action. 

After two rounds, Ferris State is presently one of four teams tied for eighth place and among 11 teams in the field who are -10 or better heading into the final round.

In Tuesday's second round, all five Bulldog competitors shot even par or better with Ryan Bayer leading the way with a two-under 70 score. He previously shot a two-over 74 in round one and is now tied for 54th overall with a 144 score.

FSU's overall leader after two rounds is Jack Weller, who's presently tied for 15th in the field with a 139 score. He shot a one-under 71 on Tuesday after carding a four-under 68 in the opening round of action.

Ferris State senior Ben Cook is tied for 34th with a 142 total after firing a 71 as well in round two. It matched his first-round 71 figure on Monday.

The Bulldogs' Seth Terpstra shot even-par 72 in the second 18 holes of play, which followed his 71 in round one. He's currently tied for 46th with a 143 total.

Finally, Andrew Hammett shot a 71 in the second round and is tied with Bayer for 54th place overall at 144 after two rounds. He bettered his score by two strokes in the second round after totaling a 73 on Monday.

Ferris State is taking part in the NCAA Division II Super Regional for the 15th consecutive year with this year's event taking place Monday thru Wednesday (May 8-10) at Awarii Dunes Golf Course.

The Midwest/Central Men's Regional is being hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney and consists of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2017 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 22-26 at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla. The finals will be hosted by the Sunshine State Conference and Central Florida Sports Commission.

Along with number five seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who are making the men's super regional tourney appearance are top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis, Grand Valley State, Indianapolis, Bellarmine (Ky.), FSU, Saginaw Valley State, Wayne State, Marysville, Tiffin and Trevecca Nazarene in respective seeding order.

Central Missouri is the Central Region's top seed and followed by Arkansas Tech, Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood (Mo.), Henderson State (Ark.), Southwestern Oklahoma State, Washburn (Kan.), Northeastern State (Okla.), Harding (Ark.) and Minnesota State-Mankato. 

Ferris State's current 15-year NCAA Championship appearance streak in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.

Action concludes on Wednesday at the Super Regional with final-round play at the Awarii Dunes Golf Course.
