Ferris State Men's & Women's Golf To Hold Open Tryouts For 2017-18 Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf programs will hold open tryouts for the 2017-18 season in early September at FSU's Katke Golf Course.

The tryouts will take place Sept. 2-4 with the men playing from the black tee markers and the women hitting from the silver tees.

The format for the tryout will be 54 holes of stroke play and the cost is $50. There are no additional fees for those who make the first or second cut.

First round tee times begin on Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m. (ET) with the top 10 finishers and ties moving on to the second round. The second round will take place on Sept. 3 at 8:03 a.m. and the second cut will consist of the top three competitors and ties. Finally, the final round is on Sept 4 at the same time and the winner will be tried out further with the respective teams following the two-week maximum tryout period set by the NCAA.

"Ferris State Men's and Women's Golf has been historically strong and we look to continue to build the programs through walk-on tryouts," said FSU head coach Kyle Wittenbach. "My belief is that there are always players who slip through the cracks and haven't been noticed and I want to give those players a chance to earn their way into collegiate golf, which is something I am very passionate about."

Wittenbach, who recently completed his first year as the Bulldogs' head coach, is a FSU alum who made the team as a walk-on in 2009 and eventually captured a GLIAC Championship while also qualifying individually for the NCAA National Championships during his Bulldog career. He led the Ferris State men's team to a NCAA National Quarterfinal appearance this past May at the D2 National Championships.

All prospective participants must also have a completed physical (within the last year) included in the registration email to Coach Wittenbach by Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. (ET).

Schedule of Events:

September 2nd - First Round tee times beginning at 8:03am at Katke Golf Club - 1st cut afterwards (top 10 and ties)

September 3rd - Second Round tee times beginning at 8:03am at Katke Golf Club - 2nd cut afterwards (top 3 and ties)

September 4th - Final Round tee times beginning at 8:03am at Katke Golf Club - Winner will be tried out further with the teams while following the 2 week maximum tryout period set by the NCAA.
