Indonesia Native Jason Martinus Joins NCAA National Quarterfinalist Ferris State Men's Golf

Big Rapids, Mich. - Reigning NCAA Division II National Quarterfinalist Ferris State has added to its men's golf lineup as head coach Kyle Wittenbach today announced the addition of Jason Martinus (Jakarta, Indonesia) to the squad for the 2017-18 season.

Martinus qualified as an amateur for the Indonesia Open Asian Tour in 2016 and twice qualified to play in the Asian Development Tour in 2015 and 2016.

"Jason brings a work ethic and energy to the program that cannot be understated," said Wittenbach. "I look forward to working with him and bringing success to himself, his family, and the Ferris State Men's Golf program."

Martinus, who's low round is 69, was the runner up in 2011 in the Jakarta Junior World Cup while also finishing second the same year in the Indonesian Junior Open. He qualified to play in the Callaway Junior Worlds in San Diego in 2012 and 2013. He's the son of Rio M Kundjung.

"I am excited to be finally joining the Ferris State Men's Golf program," he said. "I can't wait to start my education in the states and begin practice with the team. I hope that I will be an immediate value to the team and I am looking forward to a freshman season and career at Ferris State."

Ferris State advanced to the national quarterfinals at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Florida this past May. FSU was the only school outside of the state of Florida or South Carolina to finish among the top seven teams in the country in stroke play. The Bulldogs fell to eventual national champion Florida Southern in the round of eight.

The Bulldogs made their 15th all-time national championships appearance and first berth since 2010 after a runner-up finish in the super regional championships. Ferris State's current 15-year NCAA Championship appearance streak in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.

The national quarterfinal appearance capped off what was an exciting first season for the Bulldogs under Wittenbach, a FSU alum. The Bulldogs won four tournaments in the fall, earned a top 10 national ranking, claimed runner-up honors at the Super Regional Championship and placed a school-best seventh overall in stroke play at the national championships this past season before earning a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight.
