Bulldog Men's Golf Opens Year At Saginaw Valley State's Al Watrous Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team officially opened its 2017-18 season by taking part in the Al Watrous Intercollegiate event hosted by Saginaw Valley State on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 9-10) at the Bay City Country Club in Bay City, Mich.

The Bulldogs shot a two-day, 599 team score to place 11th overall in a strong and competitive field. After shooting a 302 first-day score, FSU came back with a 297 figure in Sunday's final round of the 36-hole event.

Ferris State was led by Andrew Hammett, who placed tied for 12th in the field with a 144 total on rounds of 69 and 75 over the two days, respectively.

Behind Hammett was newcomer Jason Martinus in a share of 45th place. He finished the two days with a 150 total after carding a 77 in round one followed by a 73 over the last 18 holes.

The Bulldogs' Josh Jeffords tied for 50th in the field at 151 as he shot a 75 on Saturday followed by a 76 on Sunday.

Next in line was the Bulldogs' Tyler Siech in a share of 71st place with a 154 total. He followed up his first-round 81 score with a one-over 73 in the last round.

Finally, Brad Walling placed tied for 80th with a 158 figure on rounds of 81 Saturday and 77 Sunday, respectively.

The Bulldogs' Andrew Proctor also competed as an individual and came in tied for 92nd overall at 162 with identical rounds of 81 each day.

Ferris State returns to action on Sept. 16-17 and the GLIAC North Invitational in South Haven, Mich.
