Ferris State's Andrew Hammett Wins Playoff To Finish As Medalist At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University's Andrew Hammett put together an impressive final round and emerged as the medalist at the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, which wrapped up Sunday (April 22) at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Hammett led the Bulldogs with a final-round score of 69 and finished at 217 for the 54 holes of action. He won a two-hole playoff over Grand Valley State's Alex Scott to finish as the league's individual champion on the par 72 course.

Behind the play of Hammett, FSU finished ninth overall in the team race on the course measuring 7,243 yards. Ferris State shot its tournament low with a 309 figure on Sunday after previously carding a 321 in round one followed by a 316 in the second round.

Hammett started off the tournament as the day one leader with a 73 before dropping to fourth place following a round of 75 on Saturday. However, he bounced back in a big way on Sunday with a three-under 69 to secure the win.

FSU's Jason Martinus came in 35th overall with a 235 figure for the three days of action. He shot a 76 in round three after recording an opening-round 84 followed by a 75 in round two.

Behind Martinus was Humml Felix, who shot an 82 on Sunday to finish tied for 47th at 248 for the tournament. Previously, he posted scores of 83 on both Friday and Saturday.

The Bulldogs' Brad Walling placed 52nd in the field with a 251 figure following his best round of 82 on the final day. It came after he had shot an 86 in the opening round and an 83 in the middle round.

Finally, FSU's Andrew Proctor wound up 55th after concluding action with a 165 thru two rounds and not registering a score on Sunday. He posted an 81 in the opening round and an 84 in round two.
