Ferris State's Andrew Hammett Wins Kent County Amateur While Setting Multiple Tourney Records

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's golfer Andrew Hammett (Bradenton, Fla.), who concluded his junior campaign at FSU this past spring, had a big weekend on the summer circuit as he recently won the Kent County Amateur with a record-setting performance.

Hammett shot a 13-under par total of 203 at Kaufman Golf Course in the 54-hole event and finished five shots in front of the rest of the field.

The Bulldog golfer's performance bettered the previous record of 204 set by Clark Klassen in 2008. Hammett shot a bogey-free 64 in round one followed by a new course record of 63 in the second round.

Overall, he finished 12-under on the par 5's with three eagles in the opening two rounds of the tournament. He closed the event with a 76 to edge 2017 champion Alex Scott from Grand Valley State by five strokes. This past spring, Hammett defeated Scott in a sudden death playoff in the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship to win the medalist honor.

Along with Hammett, fellow teammate and Bulldog senior golfer Seth Terpstra also competed in the event and tied for seventh overall with a 214 total (-2) for the weekend.

This past spring, Hammett was also chosen to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Midwest Regional Championships where he plaecd tied for 13th overall in Findlay, Ohio. Overall, Hammett won two tournaments this past season as the individual medalist, including the GLIAC Championships held at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. In the event, he led the Bulldogs with a 217 figure for the 54 holes and fired a three-under 69 in the final round before winning a two-hole playoff over Scott for the title.

During the 2017-18 campaign, Hammett recorded five top-15 finishes in tournament action while also winning the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational held in Ohio. He placed among the top 12 performers in three fall tournaments for the Bulldogs and was an All-GLIAC First Team honoree.

A year ago, Hammett helped the Bulldogs to a runner-up team finish in the super regional championships before going on reach the national quarterfinals under head coach Kyle Wittenbach.

With Hammett's selection to the NCAA Championships this past spring, it marked the 16th-straight year in which the Bulldogs have had representation in the NCAA Tournament. Ferris State's current 16-year NCAA Championship appearance streak in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.
