Terpstra Wins Medalist Honors As Ferris State Men's Golf Takes Second On Home Course

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf squad captured runner-up honors in the 2018 GLIAC North Invitational hosted by the Bulldogs this weekend (Sept. 15-16) at FSU's Katke Golf Course.

Ferris State held the day one lead after an impressive 282 score in Saturday's opening 18 holes of action on the par 70 course measuring 6,888 yards. FSU followed it up with a 297 figure on Sunday to finish two strokes behind team champion Grand Valley State, which carded a 577 total.

A total of eight schools and 10 individuals competed in the two-round event.

Ferris State's Seth Terpstra emerged as the individual medalist as he shot a 142 total before winning a playoff against GVSU's Mitchell White for the title. Terpstra shot back-to-back 71's in the two rounds of action.

Meanwhile, FSU's Andrew Hammett tied for fourth overall at 144 for the weekend. He posted a 69 in the opening round and then came back with a 75 in round two.

Ferris State's Jack Weller also placed among the top 10 in a share for ninth place overall on the strength of a 147 total. He notched a 71 in the first round and came back with a 76 to close the event.

FSU's Jason Martinus also shot a 71 in Saturday's action before finishing with a 82 on Sunday to placed tied for 26th with a 153 figure.

Finally, senior Ryan Bayer wound up tied for 29th in the field with a 154 score after shooting a 79 in the first round followed by a 75 in round two.

Ferris State also had six competitors take part as individuals in the event with Thomas Hursey tied for 12th place overall (148) and Andrew Proctor coming in tied for 15th (150). FSU's George Albone was tied for 20th (151), Felix Humml placed 33rd (155), Daniel Shattuck was tied for 38th (160) and Brad Walling tied for 48th overall (177).

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Findlay Fall Invitational set for Sept. 24-25 in Findlay, Ohio.
