Ferris State's Jack Weller Wins HawksHead Invitational As Bulldogs Finish Seventh Overall

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team came away with a seventh place team finish and had the individual champion at the 2018 Hawkshead Invitational hosted this weekend in South Haven.

Bulldog senior Jack Weller shot a 70 in round one followed by a 68 in round two to finish at 138 overall, which was good for a two-shot victory in the 36-hole event on the links style par 72 course at HawksHead Links. The event was hosted by Wayne State University.

Weller finished at six under par for the tournament on the 6,998 yard course and moved up three spots on the final day to earn the win.

Overall, FSU shot 595 for the tournament with a 304 in round one followed by a 13-shot improvement on day two with a 291 figure. FSU's 291 score in the final round was the day's best.

Senior Andrew Hammett finished tied for 22nd overall with a 150 total as he shot back-to-back rounds of 75 over the two days of action.

FSU's Tom Hursey placed tied for 27th at 153 while senior Seth Terpstra came in tied for 33rd at 154 overall. Hursey shot an 80 on Saturday and a 73 Sunday with Terpstra carding a first-round 79 and a final day round of 75.

Finally, Jason Martinus came in tied for 42nd in the field with a 157 figure on rounds of 81 and 76 Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Bulldog senior Ryan Bayer competed as an individual and finished tied for 13th in the field with a 147 total. He shot a one-under 71 in round one and came back with a 76 in the final 18 holes.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Oct. 8-9 at the Missouri-St. Louis Invitational.
