Ferris State's Andrew Hammett Wins Medalist Honors At Titans Motown Collegiate Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the third time this year, the Ferris State University men's golf squad produced the individual medalist in a tournament this fall as senior Andrew Hammett captured the 2018 Titans Motown Collegiate Championship, which took place at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland, Mich.

Hammett led the Bulldogs to a third-place team finish by wrapping up action in the three-round event on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 15-16) atop the leaderboard. He shot six-under for the tournament at 210 overall with a round of 72 followed by a 66 and another 72 score for a two-shot victory.

The tournament took place on the par 72 course measuring 7,042 yards with 36 holes played Monday followed by the final 18 on Tuesday.

Fellow senior Seth Terpstra carded a 226 at +10 while finishing 15th in the field. He shot a 72 in round one before notching a 76 in the second round and a 78 in round three.

FSU's Thomas Hursey placed tied for 26th overall at 232 (+16). Hursey tallied a 76 in round one and a 75 in the second round before closing the tourney with a final-round 81 score.

The Bulldogs' Jack Weller finished tied for 31st with a 234 (+18) total on rounds of 77, 78 and 79 over the 54 holes.

Finally, senior Ryan Bayer came in tied for 43rd in the field at 241 (+25). Bayer registered a 79 followed by a 78 and an 84 in the three rounds.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot a 902 team figure (+38) with a first-round 297 score along with a 295 in round two and a 310 finale.

Grand Valley State took first place (879) with Loyola (Ill.) second (889) in the 10-team event. The Bulldogs are GVSU were the only non-Division I schools in the field.

Hammett became the third different FSU senior golfer to capture medalist honors this year, joining both Terpstra and Weller. 

The event wrapped up the fall campaign for the Bulldogs, who will return to action with the first spring competition slated for March 7-8 in St. Cloud, Fla.
