Ferris State Men's Golf Captures Greyhound Invitational Championship

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team captured its second tournament championship of the spring as the Bulldogs finished first at the University of Indianapolis Greyhound Invitational, which wrapped up with final round play on Tuesday (April 9) at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

The Bulldogs finished with a three-day 851 team figure, finishing 17 strokes ahead of runner-up host Indianapolis in the 54-hole event. After back-to-back 282 team scores on Sunday and Monday, FSU finished with a 287 total in the final round of action, topping the field of 18 regional schools.

Along with winning the team title, the Bulldogs also had the two top individual finishers in the event. Senior Jack Weller earned individual medalist honors with a 207 figure and was five strokes ahead of the runner-up and his fellow senior teammate Seth Terpstra, who shot a 212 total.

Weller carded an impressive 67 in round one and came back with a 71 in the second round before closing the event with a 69 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Terpstra shot a 68 Sunday followed by a 73 in the middle round and a 71 over the final 18 holes of action.

The Bulldogs' Thomas Hursey placed tied for 14th at 217 for the tournament, carding a first-round 74 and a second-round 67 before notching a 76 in the last round.

Next up was senior Andrew Hammett, who shared 33rd place overall with a 221 mark. He opened with a 73 and then shot a 77 in the second 18 hole and wound up with a 71 on Tuesday.

Finally, senior Ryan Bayer shot a 79 in the last round and finished tied for 60th at 228. His first-round 78 score was followed by a 71 in round two on Monday.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships set for April 19-21 in Augusta, Mich.
