Ferris State Men's Golf Takes Third To Advance To GLIAC Semifinal Round On Sunday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team advanced to the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Semifinals as the Bulldogs finished third overall in the first two rounds of the league championships on Saturday (April 20) at Bedford Valley Country Club near Battle Creek.

The Bulldogs shot a 301 team figure in Saturday's second round of action and finished at 599 for the initial 36 holes of the league championships after carding a first-round 298 figure on Friday. Ashland led the way at 590 for the two rounds with Grand Valley State second (591).

By finishing among the top four teams in the field, the Bulldogs advance to the head-to-head medal portion of the conference tournament on Sunday (April 21). FSU will be the number three seed and face second-seeded GVSU in the semifinals on Sunday morning with top-seeded Ashland facing fourth-seeded Wayne State. The winners will then square off in the title match on Sunday afternoon.

Ferris State was led by senior Andrew Hammett, who finished tied for seventh individually with a 148 total. After shooting a one-under par 71 on Friday, he posted a 77 in Saturday's 18 holes of play.

Fellow senior Seth Terpstra carded a two-over 74 on Saturday and placed tied for 12th at 150 overall. He had shot a 76 in round one.

Terpstra is tied with teammate Thomas Hursey, who also posted rounds of 76 on Friday and 74 on Saturday to notch a 150 figure.

Senior Jack Weller was the fourth FSU player to finish among the top 15 overall as he tied for 15th in the field with a 151 score on rounds of 75 Friday and 76 on Saturday.

Finally, senior Ryan Bayer came in tied for 27th with a 156 as he shot an 80 in round two following his 76 in the opening round.

The event is being held this year in Augusta, Mich., with action at the Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort near Battle Creek.

Action continues with semifinal-round play on Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. (ET).

The 2019 GLIAC Championships featured a new format with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play with a single round per day on both Friday and Saturday. The low four of five scores counted towards the respective team score for each squad.

Following round two, the top four teams advanced to head-to-head medal play on Sunday with a bracket format similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships. The two winning teams following semifinal-round play will advance to the finals in which a GLIAC Champion will be crowned.
