Men's Golf Wraps Up Season-Opening Action At GVSU's Don Underwood Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team officially opened the 2019-20 season by taking part in the Don Underwood Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 9-10) at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.

The Bulldogs shot a three-round 902 stroke total to finish eighth overall among the 12 competing teams in the season-opening event, which was won by the University of Findlay (864) with Wayne State (869) earning runner-up honors.

FSU shot a 304 in the first round followed by a 300 in round two and closed with a 298 figure in the final round of the 54-hole tournament.

Sophomore Thomas Hursey paced the Bulldogs by coming in tied for 16th overall with a 220 total on rounds of 76, 71 and 73 over each round, respectively.

FSU's Nathan Kraynyk posted a 228 total and placed tied for 34th. After shooting a first-round 75, he notched a 79 in round two followed by a 74 in the final round.

The Bulldogs' Daniel Shattuck placed tied for 41st in the field at 230 with rounds of 77, 75 and 78 in the event.

Next in line was Trent Barth, who carded a 231 figure for a share of 44th place. He shot a 76 followed by a 75 in Monday's two rounds before closing with an 80 on Tuesday.

Finally, Tanner Moore wound up tied for 59th with a 241 mark. He followed up his first-rouund 77 with a 91 before finishing with his best score of 73 over the final 18 holes.

FSU's Zach Gildner also competed as an individual and tied for 59th as well with a 241 on rounds of 77, 83 and 81 overall.

Ferris State will next host the GLIAC North Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15, at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
