Men's Golf Moves Up On Final Day For Third Place Finish at Whistling Straits Championship

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team closed out its fall season action with a third-place finish at the Whistling Straits Championship, which wrapped up with final round play on Tuesday (Oct. 22) in Kohler, Wis.

The Bulldogs improved upon their first-round score by 31 strokes to climb from a tie for fifth place overall to third in the final round of the 36-hole event.

FSU battled tough weather conditions which impacted all scores in Monday's opening round when they shot a 349, but came back with a 318 figure on Tuesday for a 667 total over the two rounds despite the course and weather conditions.

Sophomore Thomas Hursey paced the Bulldogs as he finished tied for sixth overall with a 162 total on rounds of 87 and 75, respectively.

Meanwhile, Daniel Shattuck carded a 79 in the final round after an opening score of 85 to finish tied for 11th with a 164 stroke total.

FSU's Zach Gildner placed tied for 27th in the field as he shot a 170 total with a first-round 86 and a second-round 84 score.

The Bulldogs' Nathan Kraynyk wound up tied for 36th at 172 on rounds of 91 and 81 Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Finally, Tanner Moore shot a 91 in round one and a 83 in round two for a 174 figure, which was good for a share of 46th place overall.

The Bulldogs are tenatively slated to open the spring season on March 5-7 at the Saddlebrook Spring Invite in Tampa, Fla.
